Does anyone know what kind of drill bit to use while drilling through ceramic sculpture and if so where could I get some? I have tried masonry bits and it didn't work- this is high fired clay. The bits I'm looking for are 3/16 and 1/4. Thanks for any ideas.

Mon, September 19, 2005 - 6:19 PMA glass bit should work if the material is really hard and brittle.

I think Ace and Gnome Depot both carry them if you don't want to wait from Amazon.

Re: drilling through ceramic sculpture
Sat, October 29, 2005 - 3:48 PMI've been wanting an excuse to get a dremel drill. They look like a lot of fun but wasn't sure if it's a truly useful tool or just a lot of hype. Sounds like the votes are in for the "useful tool" side. Procrastinator that I am I haven't done the drilling yet so will look for a dremel. Thanks! -

Sun, October 30, 2005 - 5:34 AMkathy,
if you do any type of fine tune work... carving, engraving
jewelry, etc
buy a flex shaft accessory with your Dremel... it's like holding a 'fatty' pen but power, too :o)
enjoy! -

Re: drilling through ceramic sculpture
Sun, October 30, 2005 - 9:20 AMor if this is a solo mission and yo dont want to shell out too much, you can order the $15-20 dollar chinese made equivalent tool at harbor frieght tools. Not totally sure that it will accept the dremmel made bits wich are really good, but that is likely. it is probably called a rotary tool. -

Re: drilling through ceramic sculpture
Sat, November 5, 2005 - 12:22 PMWell, I'm looking for a solution for this one project but I've had this problem before- drilling holes in ceramic to attach welded mini doors, making fountains, looking for a cold connection solution for something I welded that wasn't quite a solid connection- solutions for that oops, now what question. I also LOVE to collect tools and do tend to find many projects to use them. And the flex shaft sounds like fun too- ahh, a trip to the tool store! And I will be in vallejo tomorrow and I think there's a Harbor Frieght on the way......Thanks for all the help! -
