The handy friend was able to get the knob off the door, and then get it open. A combination of dirt and moisture(been raining a lot, wood swells) has been addressed, and I am happily able to enter and exit through the front door again.
Thanks for the suggestions.

The link was pretty thorough, but the knob is stuck firmly on and will not turn. Guess its time to call a friend or locksmith.

If the door is stuck on the lock this might work and I'd try that first.. all you need is a screw driver for that. You lock might be brokem Does that seem likely? Once you get the knob off and remove the lock mechanism you might be able to tell if the lockis broken.
Her is a link to a sight with some info on removing locks and fixing stuff

I would definitely need another person, bigger and stronger, to take the door off. Was hoping for a better clue to remove the doorknob and twist it otherwise.

Do you have any hand tools? I might hava suggestion if you have a hammer a screw driver and a flat bar. It involves removing the pins from the hinges. If the door is as heavy as most front doors It'll be helpful to have someone else to help move it around.

My front door is stuck. I'm able to get in and out of the house by the basement door.
The front door's unlocked, but the triagular-shaped thing that goes in and out when you turn the knob won't go, and I can't turn the knob. I can't open it from the outside, because the storm door is locked by the same latch -the button to release it is pushed to lock, even with the key.
I suspect the recent rains have swollen the wood door and its frame, but I really would like to avoid calling a locksmith. Any suggestions?
