The Madagascar Institute presents:

Clean!

Come to the Madagascar Institute on Saturday, November
6th and help
spin order out of chaos by cleaning the shop. It will
be dirty, it will be a whole lot of work, but it will
be fun and a great thing for you to do.
The Madagascar Institute prides itself on being an
open system, a place where
anyone (meaning: you) can just walk in off of the
street and become an artstar by showing up, shutting
up, and working. We realize that practically, this is
hard, since we all come off as some kind of mean,
elitist art gang. If you always wanted to be a part of
the Madagascar Institute but were put off by that
sleazy guy or that mean girl, this
is the perfect opportunity to plunge right in to the
level playing field
of cleaning, the dirty, annoying, so so important
thing that you already know
how to do, the thing, that by virtue of everyone
hating, instantly forges bonds of comradery thru
shared labor and common perseverance in the
face of overwhelming filth. You will discover that the
scarred art pirate/master welder chick/expert costume
maker and party thrower is just a huge nerd, just like
you, and that you have bonded in the best
possible way, in the forge of shared labor and
annoyance.
As if this was not enough there are two big perks:
-Help clean, and be rewarded wih a free class session
(class details below)
-Help clean, and get to witness the glory that is
JETBIKE!. "JETBIKE!"?, you ask.
Yes, JETBIKE! It is a big, propane-powered, jet
engine, powering a
motorcycle, glowing red and louder than god. It is
glorious, and you
will get to witness it, and learn how it works, and
maybe even touch it; and the inevitable Jet Frenzy
coupled with your artstardom from the
cleaning will get you so,so laid we cannot be
responsible for the inevitable, sex-related injuries
that you will incur.

Cleaning starts at 2 pm on Saturday and goes until the
JETBIKE! sings.

ShopKat will be available all day dispensing bites and
scratches. But
only to the people she likes.

Sat. Nov 6, 2 pm-?
Shop Clean-up, Free.

Not a class, per se--more like an event. Yes, an event
that involves cleaning the shop, upstairs, downstairs
and in the backyard. So if you've ever wondered what
the crafty downstairs is SUPPOSED to
look like, or ever wondered what is living under the
welding table out back,
come on down and help us clean. If you have NEVER been
to Madagascar Institute
before and come help us clean this saturday, you will
get a voucher for a free regular-priced class. Come
get bossed around by Anney Fresh--for free!
This is an offer too good to refuse!

Sat Nov. 13, 6pm
Beg. knitting with Kristen $20
plus materials fee--you will leave with needles and
yarn.

Kristen will teach you how to know a very basic scarf.
If you've never knitted before it may end up just a
potholder, but it will be the
nicest potholder ever. If you have alittle experience,
or are very good with
your hands, then you will be able to knit a scarf. She
is very patient.
Unless you're really retarded. But I will be taking
the class, so you won't be the biggest tard there.
All I know is that Kristen went to Ireland a few weeks
ago, and decided she needed an Irish cable knit
sweater. So she just made herself one.
She knits like that.

Wed. Nov. 17, 7:30 PM
Beg. MIG welding with Kim! $20

MIG welding--our most coveted class. This is the
class that made us famous and it's still only $20. A
deal at twice the price!
Learn the basics--how to prepare the steel to get a
solid weld, why you won't get electrocuted, why you
shouldn't look into the spark, the
latest welding fashion...All the important stuff.
And if the stars are all aligned properly, you'll
learn how to make a
nice shiney weld.
Prepare yourself for the rare INTER MIG welding the
following weekend,
and arc and oxy-acet welding that will be coming up in
the future.

Sat Nov 20, 1 PM
WELD BETTER! with Hackett $20

Yep. You heard it right.
Due to popular demand, Hackett is finally teaching a
welding class.
This is INTERMEDEATE MIG WELDING. In other words, you
already have to
know how to weld. At least alittle. Or be really cute
and a really fast learner.
No seriously--you have to have taken the beginning
welding class or
welded before. This is why:
He will probably not tell you why you shouldn't weld
stainless steel,
or why you have to open the window, or have you start
with a cleanly ground piece of steel because you get
a nicer weld. Because you already know all
this.

Sat. Nov 20, 2 PM
Beginning Sewing with Maureen. $20

You know Mo. She is the world famous Madagascar
Institute knot tying champion. But did you know she
can sew too? Learn how to sew a simple item. It may be
a throw pillow, or a pillow case, a tote bag or a
tampon case, but guaranteed: It will reqire a
button. And that is worth the 20 bucks alone!
Learn how to follow a basic pattern, how to sew a
straight line, the machine basics, and how to properly
sew a button and ghetto button
hole. She will be using
the classic teaching manual, "Sewing with Sherry"
