I'm looking for women in the D.C. Metro area that know how to handle there tools or dont mind learning. I am the assistant director at a local community theatre as well as some freelance work and I'm looking for a few good women to be stagehands/crew so that I can round out my predominantly male crew.
If your a woman in the area and you wanna come down and make some extra cash or you just wanna learn how to use your tools a little better drop me a message. NO experience required, just an open mind to learning and consideration for safety.
I'm a master technician by trade and i do a little over 300 shows per year. I prefer to have a good population of women on my crews because they are less accident prone then most of my guys. (Theres something about power tools and testosterone. Maybe one too many episodes of home improvement).
In any case I'm the shop foreman and I've taught stageworks at the local comm. college. I dont tolerate discrimination or teasing or hazing. It's serious work, but we have serious fun as well.
cheers,
the dr.

Re: are you handy?
Tue, February 17, 2004 - 10:50 PMI havent tried craiglist. might can do that. I'm just doing my part to diversify the field. Theatre is woefully lacking in diversity when it comes to crew and stagehands. Ive gained and trained most of the females on my crew from female actors who wanted to get involved and found they liked backstage better.
Its not alot of heavy lifting, in fact quite the opposite in theatre you build to look realistic, but it should be light enough to be moved by a couple ppl or a team.
well if you ever move out to DC let me know, on the freelance side of things [outside of theatre] we are making serious money from doing these corporate gigs. (Alot of money for doing spandex art.)
